Seeds of Peace

Seeds of Peace is a non-profit, non-political organization that helps youth around the world learn peace building and co-existence skills. Headquartered in New York, it brings together youth form conflict ridden regions to a summer camp in Maine for 3 weeks. By combining recreational sports and art activities with daily co-existence sessions, Seeds of Peace provides a total living environment in which peacemaking is encouraged and nurtured. Since its inception almost nineteen years ago,SOP has worked with youth from Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Jordon, Morocco, Tusnisia, the Balkans and the U.S. Eleven years ago, for the first time , Indian and Pakistani youth , 14 and 15 years old, were selected to participate in the program. The idea behind SOP is to equip future leaders, the ‘Seeds’, with good listening and communication skills, and to help them at a young age to learn to accommodate differences and to respect the so-called “other”.
